PNUC RENEWABLE ENERGY CO-OPERATIVE INC.

PNUC Renewable Energy Co-operative Inc. is a non-profit organization created in 2011 with the original objective to obtain a 20-year feed-in-tariff contract with IESO to sell solar energy into the grid at a fixed price of $0.548/kWh. The solar energy system, installed in 2012, is located at Port Nelson United Church and consistently generates >$38,000 in revenue annually. Our board of directors team monitors production and fortunately, we have experienced zero down-time and $0 maintenance costs for >5 years. Today, Jeremy Day is the Chair of PNUC Renewable Energy Co-operative and he is actively recruiting at least 2 new board members.

The board of directors chose to apply years of budgeted savings to install 2 parking spaces for Electric Vehicle Charging stations at Port Nelson United Church. The EV chargers are also monitored and administered by our team, since they were commissioned in 2021. Since we now ask EV drivers to pay an industry-standard price to charge their vehicles, the EV chargers are financially self-sufficient and poised to be cashflow positive in 2024.

As of 2024, the EV Chargers are self-sufficient and are in fact, profitable, creating room for future projects inspired by a new group of people, such as yourself! Just like with the solar energy system, we have experience $0 in maintenance fees, while we also are keeping aside an annual maintenance budget, in addition to a pre-paid 5 year warranty since 2021.

In addition to owning and operating the rooftop solar energy system at Port Nelson United Church, our team hosted a very successful event at Port Nelson United Church in March 2020. The event was called “The Executive Briefing on Climate Change” and included a full day of interesting talks about how the business community is factoring climate change into their daily and annual business plans. We were very pleased to host a well-known author in the field of business sustainability, named Bob Willard, to be our keynote speaker. We are also proud to have welcomed Burlington’s Mayor, Marianne Meed Ward, Burlington Chamber of Commerce, plus various speakers representing a diverse range of industries. The event was essentially sold out and was very successful, just one week before the very first pandemic shutdown.

The pandemic made it difficult for our team to grow our presence in the community and we have experienced turnover within our board of directors. This is why we’re actively recruiting more board members. We look forward to welcoming new board members in 2024, as we look forward to a bright future, as a proud member of the Burlington community.

THAT’S RIGHT,
WE ARE LOOKING FOR NEW BOARD MEMBERS
